2025 Student Symposium on April 4th!!
The NSF NRT TREAWS (Transdisciplinary Research and Education for Air and Water Resources Solutions) program offers various activities designed to prepare graduate students to address air and water challenges in coastal communities through interdisciplinary research. Activities include research projects, fieldwork, and hands-on experience in environmental monitoring and data analysis, where students apply cutting-edge techniques to real-world issues.
The program also fosters interdisciplinary collaboration, allowing students from various fields—such as environmental engineering, social sciences, and policy studies—to work together on innovative solutions. Through these activities, the NRT TREAWS program prepares students to tackle complex environmental issues, bridging the gap between science and community needs for sustainable environmental management.

The NSF Research Traineeship (NRT) Annual Meeting 2024 brought together researchers, educators, and trainees from across the nation to explore innovative approaches in STEM education and transdisciplinary research. This year’s event featured thought-provoking presentations, interactive workshops, and collaborative discussions focused on advancing solutions to some of the most pressing challenges in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics. Attendees had the opportunity to share insights, build partnerships, and celebrate the transformative impact of the NRT program on research and workforce development.
The NSF NRT TREAWS Annual Meeting was held on September 12 and 13, 2024, brought together researchers, program participants, and stakeholders to review progress and set new goals for the upcoming year. Key sessions included presentations on recent advancements in transdisciplinary research and education efforts addressing air and water resource challenges in coastal communities. The meeting emphasized the importance of collaboration and community involvement, with discussions on how to improve the Humanitarian Service-Learning Experience (HSLP) component. Attendees also explored ways to deepen stakeholder engagement, refine research approaches, and maximize the program's impact on coastal resilience and sustainability. This gathering underscored the collective commitment to innovative solutions that benefit both the environment, and the communities served.
The Port of Corpus Christi (POCC) Workshop served as an essential platform for collaboration and knowledge exchange around topics related to port operations, environmental stewardship, economic growth, and community engagement. The workshop brings together stakeholders from various sectors, including environmental organizations, academia, industry representatives, and government agencies, to discuss challenges and opportunities associated with the Port of Corpus Christi’s activities. Key areas of focus typically include sustainable development practices, port expansion projects, environmental impact mitigation, and strategies to enhance local and regional economic development.
Workshops like the POCC foster a collaborative environment where participants can share insights, explore innovative solutions, and contribute to the development of sustainable practices that benefit both the local community and the broader region. These discussions often result in actionable recommendations that align the Port’s operations with community interests, environmental protection goals, and long-term economic planning. The POCC Workshop is a valuable component of the Port's commitment to being a responsible steward of environmental and economic resources in the Texas Coastal Bend area.
